Sine Saloum - ADS (EN)...

The Sine Saloum is a natural region, it is a delta formed by the confluence of two rivers, the Sine and the Saloum ...

This region is located north of the Gambia and south of the small coast of Senegal. Its area is 180,000 hectares and it is in this region that the Saloum Delta National Park is located. Of great historical and cultural wealth, it is one of the most beautiful sites in Senegal. It is an area made up of mangroves, lagoons, forests and sandy cords and presents a great diversity of natural ecosystems. It is watered by the Saloum river, the Baololong, a tributary of the Gambia river, the Niani NJA oblong, the tributary of the Sandugou. This sector corresponds to the administrative regions of Kaolack and Fatick and constitutes more than 70% of the peanut basin. Kaolack, the administrative capital (around 180,000 inhabitants), is home to a large groundnut crushing plant. Its region is also renowned for its production of cashew trees and for the salt pans of Doriane. Big festivals are organized like "Mbossé" (monitor lizard) which is the totem of the city of Kaolack, which takes place in September with an impressive procession and divinatory sessions. In Fatick, in October and November, traditional royal wrestling sessions are organized and sponsored by the king. Visit the islands, along the meanders of rivers, these popular tourist sites and its artisanal fishing. Discover the small villages in the bolongs and forests like Foundiougne, Sokone, Toubacouta, Missirah ...

A little history by ADS: The Sereres and the Niominkas The Serer are from the ethnic group of great craftsmen of the pyramids and navigators of the Nile. They came to settle in the Senegal river valley and cohabited with the Foulbés and the Soninkés. Like other ethnic groups, they refused to submit to Islam and settled in the Sine Saloum region. These countries will be inherited from their father afterwards and will give birth to the Sureres kingdoms of Baol and Sine saloumet later, the Mandingos will also mix with the Sereres. Part of the Guelwar dynasty (Sérères, Mandingos ...), will remain on the small coast will give birth to the Sérères Niominka ethnic group: an egalitarian society, with a very pronounced spirit of independence, they are peasants or fishermen. A circuit in Sine Saloum with ADS will surely be one of the most beautiful regions that you will have the opportunity to discover. Different circuits are possible, at your convenience and depending on the time you have. The global presentation by region, is only for information and allows, I hope, to guide you geographically, it can be sectioned, reorganized according to your expectations.
